Recycle your CFL bulbs at the TakeCharge table!
The Environmental Health and Safety Division is collecting Compact Fluorescent Ligt (CFL) bulbs at theTakeCharge table
What is a CFL?
Those corkscrew-shaped light bulbs that use 75 percent less energy and last 10 times longer than standard incandescent ones. In the summer, they produce 75 percent less heat than standard ones.
Why do I need to bring them to you for disposal?
CFLs contain a trace amount of mercury (roughly a pin head size) that should be kept out of the landfill. We will recycle the bulbs and collect the mercury.
But if they contain mercury, why should I use them?
Because they use so much less energy, the overall pollution impact is less.
