Licensed Software Services
Penn
State's Computer
Store and Licensed Software
Services (LSS) offer many
ways to acquire great software
at terrific pricing! While
licensing saves Penn State
millions of dollars by negotiating
volume pricing, there are
some licenses that you may
purchase for personal use
as well.
Contracts
are negotiated with individual
vendors and distributors to
provide Penn State faculty/staff,
students, and departments
with licensing programs at
below retail pricing.
Licenses
entitle use of a specific
version of software, or use
of software, for a particular
period of time. License
Software Services (LSS) has
provided these as your most
affordable option.
There
are currently 3 main types
of licenses available at the
Computer Store, faculty/staff,
student,
and department.

Departmental
Software Licenses are
available to Penn State
departments for purchase
with departmental funds.
Typically, departmental
licenses consist of
a paper copy of the
right to use the software,
and are sold separately
from the the media (CD
or DVD) utilized to
install it. This is
because a department
may need 100 licenses
for its employees, but
only one CD with which
to install them all. |

Student
Software
Licenses are
available for purchase
only by Penn State
students with personal
funds, and covers
a wide variety of
common and specialty
software titles.
Part-time students
are also eligible
for these prices.
This allows returning
adults and University
employees that are
taking classes to
take advantage of
the same pricing
as traditional students. |
The
LSS group is continually
looking for new
licensed software
to add to our program.
If your department
currently has multiple
copies of a software
title that we don't
carry, or if there
is a program that
you think the Computer
Store should consider
as a University
license, please
fill out the Contact
Form. LSS
will research the
possibility of adding
your software title
to our inventory.
